Ever wonder if gold could grow on trees? Well, clever you, you may be onto something. Birch trees, to be specific. And the gold? Chaga! Seem familiar?

Not surprising, as Chaga is becoming one of the more recognizable names in mushroom medicine. It can be found in anything from vitamins to chocolate!

But why Chaga?

Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) is a dark, hard mass of mycelium with a rich golden or sunset-orange center which carries an impressive nutritional resume! Chaga have one of the highest levels of antioxidants in the natural world. Chaga has been valued for years for its potent immune support and inflammation balancing properties. Chaga has be shown to support digestive health, maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels as well as help promote healthy energy levels. All the benefits eventually earned it the name "Black Gold".

As wonderful as it is to see a medicinal mushroom getting such recognition, this has created issues with sustainable harvesting. Chaga is incredibly important to the ecosystem, forming a symbiotic relationship with the birch tree, typically at an injury site (i.e anything that strips away a trees protective bark). Chaga is exceptionally slow growing and if too much is harvested off of the tree it can hasten the death of the tree! Why? The Chaga actually provides protection at the injury site. Don't worry, we don't call ourselves Peaceful Harvest for nothing! We have carefully selected our wild-crafting partners to ensure the Chaga that we use is harvested sustainably. We pay a fair price for their expertise and approach. We believe that our environment offers important natural medicines and want to be a conduit for our community while maintaining Right Relationship with our environment to the best of our ability. We are doing everything possible to make sure nature is supported, so that we can keep bringing you this amazing mushroom medicine.

So the world can keep the fancy gold coins, medals and trophies; we'll stick with Chaga!
